(RESERVED) John Boxer Folkstone Mahogany Longcase Clock Circa 1805

John Boxer began his career as an apprentice to a London watchmaker before returning to Folkestone in 1803 to marry his future wife, Ann. He crafted this longcase clock sometime after their marriage.

In addition to watchmaking, Boxer established several other ventures. He ran a subscription library, worked as an auctioneer, and traded in stamps. Later, he served as Folkestone’s postmaster, even issuing his own tokens for local use, two of which are preserved in the Museum’s collection.
