James Bruce, Edinburgh. Circa 1780 Regulator.

We are not certain if the name on the dial refers to the maker or the owner. It is unusual not to have the place name on the dial so this would infer the latter. There is a  traveller and adventurer, James Bruce of Edinburgh, famous for his claim to have discovered the source of the Nile, also known to have a fondness for transit instrumentation and clocks (among other things). As you may imagine we will be researching this maker with some interest. We can say that it is beautifully made, and accurate.

Height 204 cms.

Price. £9,500 Circa. 1780
